FULL CIRCLE MIRROR IMAGE
MAURICE SMALL & JOHNNY COLEMAN, CLEVELAND, JULY 10, 2011
Food activist Maurice Small, artist Johnny Coleman and myself collaborated to create Full Circle Mirror Image in 2011 as a living tribute to the full life cycle of one tenacious urban crop: collard greens. Coleman and Small constructed a planter outside SPACES, building soil through continual sheet-mulching in order to grow a crop of collard greens. On July 10, we both planted collards outside the gallery and cooked them inside, while taking the time to share a locally-sourced meal and tell the sensory story of what good food can do to bring people together. |
